This is the beach at Medmerry March 2007.
During the low tide periods the Environmental Agencies Bulldozers are pushing shingle from the foreshore, up the embankment. This forms into a ridge along the top edge. Then traversing along the top of the embankment the dozers level the ridges. In so doing the shingle is pushed to the sides of the machines and peculates down both the front and rear of the bank. This effectively realigns the shingle bank landward. Another name for this realignment is Managed Retreat.
This view is looking westward from the boat ramp by the Coastguard Tower looking along Medmerry Cliff. 18:30 11th April 2007. The shingle has returned. We are in the middle of a neap tide, meaning only nominal rise and fall. Now would be a good time for the E.A. to gather, push-up and store the shingle, for use and beach replenishment, during stormy spring tides.
This was 21 January 2007, 11:14:48 Toe End Medmerry looking eastward towards the caravan park houses and the coastguard tower. As you can see the Groyne was in near perfect condition. I have hundreds of photographs and holiday snaps showing Groynes in good condition and doing-their-job, retaining stones and preventing long shore drift.
